Organized by Unique Sherpa Trek & Expedition Pvt. Ltd., this unforgettable trekking adventure is designed for travelers seeking the perfect combination of world-famous Everest landscapes, pristine glacial lakes, authentic Sherpa culture, and an exciting high-altitude mountain pass in the heart of the Everest region.
Unlike the classic Everest Base Camp Trek, the Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek in Nepal follows a breathtaking circular route through the magnificent Sagarmatha National Park, allowing trekkers to experience the peaceful Gokyo Valley, the stunning turquoise Gokyo Lakes, the mighty Ngozumpa Glacier, Everest Base Camp, and Kala Patthar in one unforgettable journey. The combination of alpine lakes, glacier crossings, dramatic mountain scenery, and traditional Sherpa villages makes this trek one of the most scenic and rewarding adventures in Nepal.
With experienced Sherpa trekking guides, carefully designed acclimatization schedules, and professional logistical support from Unique Sherpa Trek & Expedition Pvt. Ltd., trekkers can safely explore one of the most beautiful trekking circuits in the Everest region while enjoying exceptional Himalayan hospitality and personalized service.
One of the greatest highlights of the Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek is crossing the spectacular Cho La Pass (5,420m / 17,782 ft), one of the most famous and rewarding high mountain passes in Nepal. The trek also includes visits to Everest Base Camp (5,364m), the stunning Gokyo Lakes (4,700–5,000m), and the iconic viewpoints of Kala Patthar (5,545m) and Gokyo Ri (5,357m), offering some of the finest panoramic mountain views in the Himalayas.
Because the trek reaches elevations above 5,500 meters, proper acclimatization is essential. Unique Sherpa Trek & Expedition Pvt. The Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek explores some of the most beautiful and peaceful landscapes in the Everest region beyond the traditional Everest Base Camp route. Trekkers journey through pristine alpine valleys, crystal-clear glacial lakes, ancient Sherpa villages, glacier-fed rivers, yak pastures, colorful forests, and rugged Himalayan terrain surrounded by towering snow-covered peaks.
Unlike the standard Everest Base Camp Trek, this circular route offers greater diversity without retracing the same trail, allowing trekkers to experience both the famous Everest trail and the hidden beauty of the Gokyo Valley. Our experienced team manages permits, Lukla flights, accommodations, transportation, meals, and trekking logistics, ensuring a seamless and worry-free Himalayan adventure.
The trail to the Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek passes through suspension bridges, rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, glacier moraines, rocky ridges, snowfields, and high mountain passes. Crossing Cho La Pass requires good physical fitness, balance, and determination. Depending on the season, sections of the pass may include snow, ice, or rocky terrain, adding excitement to the adventure. Although no technical climbing skills are required, previous trekking experience and good physical conditioning will greatly enhance the overall trekking experience.
Weather in the Everest region changes rapidly, especially above 5,000 meters, where clear mornings can quickly develop into snowfall, clouds, or strong mountain winds. For the safest and most enjoyable trekking experience, Unique Sherpa Trek & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. recommends undertaking the Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when skies are generally clear, mountain views are exceptional, and trail conditions are at their best. Our experienced Sherpa guides closely monitor weather conditions to ensure safe crossings of Cho La Pass and successful completion of the trek.
The Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek typically lasts 15 to 18 days, including proper acclimatization before crossing Cho La Pass. Daily trekking ranges from 5 to 8 hours, while the Cho La Pass crossing may require 8 to 10 hours of hiking over glaciers, rocky trails, and snow-covered terrain.
Although this trek requires good physical fitness, mental determination, and proper preparation, it rewards trekkers with one of Nepal's most complete and unforgettable Himalayan adventures. With expert guidance from Unique Sherpa Trek & Expedition Pvt. Ltd., trekkers enjoy a safe, professionally organized, and life-changing journey through the spectacular Everest region.

The Gokyo Cho-La Pass Trek is a challenging high-altitude adventure in the Everest region, combining the beautiful Gokyo Valley, turquoise glacial lakes, spectacular Himalayan viewpoints, and the demanding Cho-La Pass at approximately 5,420 meters. Because the trek involves steep ascents, rocky terrain, snow and ice conditions, cold temperatures, and significant altitude gain, proper equipment is essential for a safe and comfortable journey.
Bring a comfortable 40–50 liter trekking backpack with adjustable straps and a supportive hip belt for carrying your personal trekking equipment.
A 15–25 liter daypack is ideal for carrying water, snacks, sunscreen, camera equipment, documents, medication, and other daily necessities.
A waterproof rain cover protects your backpack and belongings from rain, snow, and moisture.
Bring sturdy, waterproof trekking boots with good ankle support and excellent grip. Break them in well before starting the trek.
Carry 4–6 pairs of moisture-wicking trekking socks, including warm pairs for the higher and colder sections.
Bring 1–2 sets of thermal tops and bottoms for cold mornings, evenings, and nights at higher elevations.
Carry 2–3 lightweight, quick-drying T-shirts for comfortable walking during warmer sections of the trek.
Pack 2–3 pairs of lightweight trekking pants suitable for long walking days and changing weather conditions.
A warm fleece jacket provides an effective insulating middle layer for cold conditions.
A good-quality down or insulated jacket is essential for cold conditions around Gokyo, Thangnak, Dzongla, and Cho-La Pass.
Bring a breathable waterproof and windproof outer shell to protect against rain, snow, and strong Himalayan winds.
Waterproof over-trousers are useful during snow, rain, and wet conditions, particularly around Cho-La Pass.
A fleece or woolen hat that covers your ears is essential for protecting your head from cold temperatures and wind.
A lightweight sun hat or cap protects your face and head from strong sunlight during daytime trekking.
Thin gloves are useful during cooler mornings and regular trekking conditions.
Carry warm insulated gloves or mittens for cold conditions and the Cho-La Pass crossing.
High-quality UV-protection sunglasses are essential. Snow and glacier glare can be intense at high altitude.
Use SPF 30–50+ sunscreen regularly to protect exposed skin from strong UV radiation.
Carry moisturizing lip balm, preferably with SPF, to protect your lips from cold, dry air and strong sunlight.
A pair of adjustable trekking poles is strongly recommended for steep ascents, descents, rocky trails, and uneven terrain.
Bring a reliable headlamp with spare batteries. It is particularly important for early starts and walking before sunrise during the Cho-La crossing.
Bring a warm sleeping bag suitable for high-altitude conditions. A -10°C to -15°C-rated sleeping bag may be appropriate depending on the season and individual needs.
A sleeping bag liner provides additional warmth and helps keep your sleeping bag clean.
Carry approximately 2–3 liters of water capacity and drink regularly throughout the trek.
Carry purification tablets, drops, or a portable water filter as a backup for treating drinking water.
Waterproof gaiters are highly recommended for snowy and muddy conditions. They help prevent snow and debris from entering your trekking boots.
Lightweight microspikes can be useful when icy or snowy trail conditions are present around Cho-La Pass. Their necessity depends on the season and current trail conditions.
Carry a compact first-aid kit containing bandages, blister treatment, antiseptic wipes, medical tape, pain-relief medicine, and other basic supplies.
Bring sufficient quantities of your regular medication and keep it safely packed in a waterproof container.
If your doctor has prescribed medication for altitude-related concerns, carry and use it only according to medical advice.
Comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended. Check the terms of your policy before departure.
Keep your passport, permits, insurance details, emergency contacts, and other required documents protected in a waterproof pouch.
A 10,000–20,000 mAh power bank is useful because charging facilities can be limited in remote high-altitude villages.
Bring a camera or smartphone to capture Gokyo Lakes, Cho-La Pass, Everest, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, glaciers, monasteries, and Sherpa villages.
Cold temperatures can reduce battery performance, so carry spare batteries and keep them protected from extreme cold.
A waterproof pouch protects your smartphone and other electronic devices from rain, snow, and moisture.
If porter service is included, a durable 50–70 liter duffel bag is useful for carrying your main trekking equipment while you carry essential items in your daypack.
Use dry bags or waterproof packing bags to organize and protect clothing, electronics, documents, and other belongings.
Pack lightweight toiletries such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, biodegradable soap, shampoo, tissues, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and other personal hygiene items.
A lightweight microfiber towel is compact, dries quickly, and is ideal for multi-day trekking.
Carry your own toilet paper and wet wipes because supplies may be limited in remote areas.
Hand sanitizer is useful when washing facilities are limited, particularly at higher elevations.
Pack lightweight, high-energy snacks such as nuts, dried fruit, chocolate, biscuits, energy bars, and electrolyte products.
High-altitude mountain air can be cold and dry. Carry a small bottle of moisturizer to help protect your skin.
A buff or face covering protects your face and neck from cold wind, dust, and dry mountain air.
A lightweight pair of sandals is useful for relaxing inside teahouses after long trekking days.
A small combination lock can provide additional security for your backpack or duffel bag.
A universal travel adapter can be useful for charging phones, cameras, and other electronic devices where electricity is available.
Earplugs can help you sleep more comfortably in shared teahouse accommodation.
A compact flashlight can serve as a backup to your headlamp and is useful during power interruptions.
An altimeter watch is optional but can be useful for monitoring elevation and tracking your progress.
Keep offline maps, emergency contacts, accommodation details, and important route information available on your phone or in printed form.
A notebook and pen can be useful for recording mountain names, elevations, village names, and memorable experiences.
Respect Sherpa communities, Buddhist monasteries, prayer wheels, mani walls, prayer flags, religious sites, and local customs throughout the Everest region.
Avoid littering, minimize plastic waste, use reusable water bottles, and follow responsible trekking practices throughout the Gokyo and Everest regions.
Bring determination, patience, and a positive attitude. The Cho-La crossing can be physically demanding, but the spectacular scenery makes this trek an unforgettable Himalayan experience.
The Gokyo Cho-La Pass Trek Package requires more specialized preparation than a standard Everest Base Camp trek because the route crosses a high mountain pass at approximately 5,420 meters. The most important equipment includes waterproof trekking boots, warm layered clothing, a down jacket, waterproof outerwear, trekking poles, insulated gloves, a warm hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a suitable sleeping bag, headlamp, water bottles, first-aid supplies, and personal medication.
A practical layering system is:
Thermal Base Layer → Fleece/Mid Layer → Down Jacket → Waterproof/Windproof Outer Layer
Keep your most important equipment in your daypack on the Cho-La crossing day, including warm clothing, gloves, sunglasses, headlamp, water, snacks, sunscreen, medication, and personal documents.
Snow and ice conditions can vary significantly according to the season. Gaiters and microspikes or other suitable traction equipment may be necessary depending on current trail conditions, so always follow your guide's advice before crossing Cho-La Pass.
Avoid overpacking. If porter service is provided, keep valuables, medication, documents, water, snacks, electronics, and essential warm clothing in your daypack, while heavier equipment can be placed in your main duffel.
